Thinking about a reception dress? Or changing into something more comfortable for dancing on your wedding night? A little inspiration from my own wedding to share with you today! To be honest, changing out of my dress on the wedding day wasn’t something I considered initially. But as our date got closer, Brian and I talked about joining our guests after the reception for a cocktail (or two!) and I had a feeling that at that point I’d be ready to get out of my dress and change into something more comfortable. Our wedding was at the end of July and I wasn’t sure how hot it would be, even in the evening. Not to mention, I didn’t mind the idea of a fun outfit change and showing off my Badgley Mischka wedding heels that I loved oh so much 🙂
And so began the search – I wanted something that was stylish, functional, and affordable. Honestly, there are so many options out there that it was difficult to choose! Places like BHLDN, Nordstrom, and JCREW are great places to find little white dresses or rompers. After a little searching, I ending up finding this cute romper online at ASOS (for under $75) and purchased it about a month before the wedding.Wedding dress: Blush by Hayley Paige / Reception romper: ASOS
I love that the sweetheart neckline of the romper was reminiscent of my wedding dress and transferring my BHLDN embellished belt from my dress over to the romper made it feel a little more bridal. The biggest plus: the shorts underneath the skirt made it super easy to wear, while giving the illusion of a dress. On the morning of the wedding day, I asked our photographer and friend Emilia Jane to snap a photo of me in the romper, as I hadn’t planned on changing into it until later in the night. But I ended up loving this look so much that after our first dance and a few songs on the dance floor with all of our guests, I changed out of my wedding dress and into the second look. Our guests were totally surprised by the outfit change and I was happy to put on something more comfortable, as I kept having to hold up the bottom of my wedding dress while dancing. Not to mention, the air conditioning inside the venue broke for about an hour during the reception – I don’t think our guests even noticed! – but it did end up being a MAJOR lifesaver to have something more breathable to change into! After all, the only thing you should be focused on on your wedding day is enjoying every minute of it with your spouse and loved ones.
Hope you’re feeling inspired to put your own personal style into your wedding day. Happy Tuesday, loves!
